In Retrospect: 1965

Introducing... a new segment which I have cleverly titled, "In Retrospect", where I pick a year and tell you all the awesome and not so awesome things that happened. Go ahead and drop your history class. This is really all the information you will ever need. Well probably....

In 1965:
The Sound of Music wins an Oscar for 'Best Picture'.

My Fair Lady and Juliet of the Spirits were also released.

Mary Quant gave birth to the mini skirt.

Malcolm X was assassinated.

Folk-rock is ushered in by The Byrds doing a cover of "Mr. Tambourine Man" which helped introduce its author Bob Dylan to a wider audience.

Commercial Craze

I'm starting to think ad agencies are just bored and enjoy messing with everyone.

This was a surprising change from the commercials they usually show during Blue Clues.

Now you don't have to bend over to wash you feet. I bet these are very popular in prison.

Please no. These can never be okay.

Flexible Love

Flexible Love's convertible furniture make Murphy beds look like child's play. Serving as an example of innovation at its finest, the company uses an ‘accordion-like, honeycomb’ structure to create durable furniture pieces produced from recycled materials such as paper and wood waste. Basically, this sofa/love seat/chair is a life size slinky for your house. Yes please.

Dangerous Advertisments

Ads suck. Except when they are these ads. And when I provide you with unnecessary, cynical commentary.
I would like to know what happened 3 seconds after this picture was taken. But I guess I would probably have to go through the police department for that information...

This would have to be very fast problem solving skills. Very fast.

Is creating a bridge in reverse like a bad ass move only the extremely talented cement truckers can pull of? If so I think I have I found a replacement for "Ice Road Truckers".

I'm going to say yes. There is such a thing as too much yoga.

Sure fire way to wake up on the right side of the bed.

PES Films

PES films creates genius stop motion animated short films (and commercials) using a vast variety of random objects. I am guessing that the artists behind these witty little movies are regulars at the 99¢ store.

Faux Swimming Pool

No need to haul your top of the line snorkel gear here. Actually, don't even bring your swim suit (unless you are incredibly comfortable with your figure) because this swimming pool is not really a swimming pool at all. At least not in the conventional sense. Argentinian artist, Leandro Erlich created an installation, called The Swimming Pool, for The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa, Japan. He created the pool by placing two clear, acrylic glass layers on the pool's surface and then filled the space in between the pieces of glass with water, creating an incredibly realistic effect. (P.S- for a little extra safety tip, I would not condone any form of fancy diving in this artsy swimming establishment.)
